Matsemela Tema

Matsemela is the Co-founder and Managing Director of East4 Holdings in which role his primary focus is leading the company into a global go-to name in engineering and construction through strategy and leadership.
He assumed this role when the company was incorporated in 2017, building on an illustrious corporate career that boasts some of the leading brands in heavy industry (construction, mining and oil and gas).
Roles and career highlights include:
- A 4-year Fitter & Turner apprenticeship at the De Beers, Cullinan Diamond Mine between March 1987 and April 1991 wherein he was responsible for engineering maintenance across the mining value chain.
- Four (4) years as Construction Manager at Grinaker-LTA between January 1994 and March 1998 wherein responsibilities included estimating, procurement, contracting, fabrication and construction activities on various mineral processing projects.
- A move to Mossgas GTL Refinery (PetroSA), Mosselbay in 1998 to serve as Project Engineer in the Projects & Engineering department where he was responsible for managing projects, from feasibility to commissioning, including shutdowns.
- An opportunity to serve as Senior Project Engineer on the flagship Gas-To-Liquids (GTL LTFT) Semi-Commercialization Project, successfully delivering the project from feasibility to commissioning.
- A promotion in 2008 into a Project Manager role in the Capital Projects department assuming responsibility for delivery of capital projects in the Upstream and Downstream divisions.
Matsemela holds a National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Johannesburg (formerly Technikon Witwatersrand), Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from Executive Education and a Masters in Business Administration from Unisa’s School of Business Leadership.
He is also registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technologist.
Matsemela’s academic journey, decades of technical and leadership experience across industries as well as successes leading East4 Holdings have elevated him into one of the respected minds and leaders in the respective industries and beyond.
Operations Director
Bona Mbeki
Bachelor of Technology Degree (Mechanical Engineering)
Bona is the Operations Director at East4 Holdings responsible for oversight of both technical operations and support functions.
He derives his extensive technical, project management and managerial experience from a long professional career in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMGC), engineering maintenance, logistics and oil & gas industries.
Bona’s career started at the FMCG company, Colgate Palmolive where he was responsible for scheduled maintenance, factory performance and reliability (FP&R).
He then moved on to pursue his career in oil & gas at PetroSA as Junior Project Engineer where, among his responsibilities, he served as client rep for offshore installation, pipe fabrication, project management and commissioning.
Two years later, he got an opportunity to work in Antarctica as Mechanical Engineer where he oversaw engineering operations and logistics leading a multidisciplinary team of Diesel Mechanics, Communication Engineer and Electrical Engineer.
Among other key performance areas, he was responsible for implementation of safety practices (isolation procedures, fire drills) and ensuring system efficiency and 24/7 plant availability in spite of breakdowns.
Bona holds a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He has attended a number of short courses including Project Management, Arc Welding and Root Cause Analysis.
He is also a registered member of SAIMechE and a candidate Engineering Technologist with ECSA.
